MU CANG CHAI ESSENTIALS

Mu Cang Chai is located about 350km from Hanoi so we will spend most of the first day and the last day on the vehicle but the condition of the road is quite good and you can have stops as often as you want for taking photographs and coffee breaks or a short walk at nice places to stretch out. The trek on Day 2 is actually quite flexible for you to discuss with our expert tour guide based on the condition of your fitness and the weather of the day to get the most suitable trek such as long one or short one or with vehicle support between the spots. The homestay and local hotel are rather basic but we will do our best to provide the most comfort for your stays.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: HANOI – MU CANG CHAI

Departure at 8:00 a.m. from your hotel in Hanoi. After getting out of bustle and hustle Hanoi, you will enjoy the countryside view through the windows while driving northwestward to Yen Bai province. Around noontime, lunch is served at a local restaurant on the way. In the afternoon, you will have a couple of scenic stops for taking photographs at Khau Pha Pass and at a viewpoint in Che Cu Nha. Late in the afternoon, arrive at a your accommodation, check in and relax for the remainder of the day. ​ *Note: There are two accommodation options for you to choose from: 1. Homestay at a local house-on-stilts 2. At comfortable bungalow of Mu Cang Chai Eco-lodge.

DAY 2: MU CANG CHAI TREK
At 8:30 after the breakfast, get transferred to a trekking point for the whole-day trek to enjoy Vietnam’s national rice terrace heritage. The trek will start from Che Cu Nha commune to La Pan Tan Commune. It is around 10 km and takes most of the day. This trek will definitely offer you a good opportunity to see the main spots and admire the beauty of amazing rice terraces that Mu Cang Chai has to offer. You will also be able to trek through a couple of the H’mong hill tribe villages and may have chance to interact with the locals, learn about their interesting daily life and culture. Picnic lunch is prepared for you today. Around 4:00 p.m. get picked up by the private vehicle, return to the accommodation for the second night.  ​

*Note: You may want to stay 1 night at the lodge, the other night at a homestay. Let our travel specialist know how you would like to experience at the requesting time.

DAY 3: MU CANG CHAI - HANOI
At 8:30 a.m. after the breakfast & packing up, set out for the journey back to Hanoi. Arrive at Tu Le, embark on a short walk to Tu Le Valley. The valley is not as amazing as what you have seen in Mu Cang Chai, but it is peaceful and nice to have some activities for the last day. Lunch is at a local restaurant on the way. The whole afternoon is spent for the same way back to Hanoi. Around 6:30 p.m. arrive at the door of your hotel in Hanoi and finish the tour.
